Shiatsu
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a Japanese style of massage that means “finger pressure”. It is performed on a futon on the floor while the client remains fully clothed in loose comfortable clothing (cotton is preferable). The client’s stomach needs to be empty to half full only.
Shiatsu is gentle and nurturing and balances the body’s energy in two ways:
-
it reduces blockages in the energy pathways
-
it guides excess Ki (energy) into Kyo (depleted) areas
Shiatsu affects both physical and emotional imbalances, and is therefore beneficial in the management of:
-
stress and stress related illnesses
-
recovery after illness or injury
-
stiffness – reduces pain and improves flexibility
-
menstrual dysfunction
-
immune disorders
-
impaired circulation and depleted energy
Shiatsu enhances a feeling of openness in the body, as well as a feeling of harmony and wellbeing.
It is the ideal therapy for the “half healthy” person – someone who is not necessarily sick but does not feel really well either. So if you feel sluggish, slow, tired, lacking in energy, appetite or concentration, then Shiatsu can help restore your wellbeing.
No oils are applied when the thumbs, palms, elbows, knees or feet are used to press and stretch the body’s meridian lines, and the pressure exerted on each individual varies according to body type and level of health.
Shiatsu provides deep relaxation and healing, harmonising body, mind and spirit. It enhances body awareness as breathwork is incorporated in the treatment.
Shiatsu is the ideal way to nurture yourself towards better health!
