Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatments
Cosmetic Acupuncture also known as facial rejuvenation acupuncture, is a popular Traditional Chinese Medicine technique used to slow down signs of ageing while improving overall health and wellbeing. Local treatment with very fine needles is used for a more even, glowing complexion, to soften fine lines and wrinkles, to improve hydration of the skin and increase tone and firmness. However, it is also a constitutional treatment, which means it aims to address your body’s overall health and function, nourishing your skin from the inside out.
Cosmetic Acupuncture is one of the most natural and affordable choices for looking after your skin and staying healthy, without the use of toxic chemicals or other more invasive procedures.
It works by:
Targeting motor points in dropped or weakened muscles to give an overall lift and more tightness
Stimulating collagen and elastin production to soften lines, giving the face a firmer feel
Increasing blood circulation to enhance oxygenation to cells in the face, resulting in a healthier complexion
Balancing disharmonies in the body to promote a glow from the inside out
- Delays and reduces the effects of facial ageing
- Reduces fine lines and softens deeper wrinkles
- Lifts drooping and sagging
- Improves muscle tone, firmness and elasticity of the skin
- Eliminates puffiness; improves dull and tired looking skin
- Improves facial complexion and evens out skin tone; decreases pigmentation
- Tightens pores; softens acne scarring
- Brightens the eyes; reduces bags and dark circles under the eyes; lifts drooping eyelids
- Improves hormonal imbalance to reduce acne or post-menopausal skin related issues
- Reduces stress which can show on your face; promotes overall health and wellbeing
- Nourishes and moistens the skin from the inside, resulting in a healthier complexion and a natural glow
How many sessions will I need?
Every person responds very differently to the treatment and usually the healthier you are, the faster and better your results will be because you are responding more rapidly due to your body functioning at its best and giving you the most optimal response.
It is important to understand that Cosmetic Acupuncture is not a "cure" and it will never eliminate all signs of ageing, but when you start glowing from the inside out people will likely begin to ask you what you have been using on your skin.
Usually you can see an improvement in skin tone and colour after the first 1-2 sessions. However, more substantial and visible results may require about 5-7 treatments. Thereafter maintenance sessions are recommended every 4 to 8 weeks. By keeping this up, the results can last for years.
Are there any side effects or contraindications?
While there are no significant side effects to Cosmetic Acupuncture, occasionally minor bruising can occur. This bruising can be treated with Arnica and usually subsides within 24 hours. There is little downtime and after the session your skin may have some redness and a warm sensation that will disappear in a few hours.
Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments are generally not advisable if you have any of the following:
- Contagious skin disease
- Straight after other facial rejuvenation therapies such as Botox, surgery, microdermabrasion or laser treatment

A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture stated that, with one course of treatments, 90% of the 300 individuals in the trial had a noticeable effect, including levelling of wrinkles, elasticity of facial muscles, a more delicate skin and a healthy, glowing complexion. An overall rejuvenation and sense of wellbeing was also reported.
